Yahoo installed by mistake
I opened Firefox and Yahoo was installed; looked in options apps, etc. could not find; any ideas how to find and delete it?
Chosen solution
hi, thank you for the report - there seems to be an increase in malware addons recently that force yahoo search upon users against their will.
could you give us more information?
- launch firefox in safe mode once: Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems
- enter about:support into the address bar of firefox, then copy the text contents of that page
- paste the text content into a site like https://dpaste.com/
- provide the link generated here in a reply in the forum
thank you

Got it fixed; I could not do any thing such as, "about:support" or "add-ons"; they would not appear, so I had to do a reset to get it fixed; Thanks for the help
Brian
thanks for reporting back - can i ask for one more favour which might help in tackling this malware and get rid of it for other affected users too: the reset should have created a backup of your profile on your desktop in a folder labelled "old firefox data". when you navigate into that folder where you will see another folder with random characters, inside that there should be another folder called "extensions". would it be possible for you to create a screenshot of the contents of that "extensions"-folder and share it with us?
I'll try: when I clicked on extensions there was 1 file and 5 XPI files and I could not figure out what I should send. A I suppose to take a pict of the XPI files?
yes, just a picture of the folder where you can see the 5 xpi's full filenames would be great.
here you go sorry it took so long
great, thanks a bunch - i'll forward this information to get this addon removed! the date-stamp also shows that it just got installed 3 days ago (sunday 6:31pm). do you by any chance remember how that happened, was there some kind of popup on a website prompting to install an extension under a false pretext?
I can't remember sorry; I do not remember installing anything, wait Battle.net, but I think that was 2 days ago. That's all I can remember because internet has been slow.
Again thanks for help
