Does it display in other browsers or just firefox it isn't displaying properly? You did confirm the font is installed on Ubuntu, too.

This happens if you do not have a font installed that covers this Unicode range.

Firefox will instead show little boxes with the hex code of the character if you do not have a font installed that covers this Unicode range.

You need to install the "Noto Sans Tamil Supplement" font.

In Opera and in Chromium-Webbrowser my font 11ETTamilSup.ttf is displaed in Ubuntu. This font is installed in /home/.local/share/fonts in Ubuntu 19.10. As written this font 11ETTamilSup.ttf is displayed in Firfox in Windows 10, too.

So I cannot understand why my font is not displayed ONLY in Firefox in Ubuntu 19.10?

I tried to place my font 11ETTamilSup.ttf into usr/share/fonts/opentype/noto but this was not possible

So I must say, there might be a bug in Firfox 73.0.1 (64-Bit) in Ubuntu 19.10

I just found out that I could not install the font NotoSansTamilSupplement-Regular.ttf into usr/share/fonts/opentype/noto but this font was installed in /home/.local/share/fonts in Ubuntu 19.10. but it was neither displayed in Firefox in Ubuntu. So, howto resolve this problem?

I installed this Noto Sans font (15240 bytes) in my home folder "~/.fonts/n" where I usually install fonts and it worked instantly. I assume that all these locations will work although you may need to rebuild the font cache:

~/.fonts
~/.local/share/fonts
/usr/local/share/fonts
/usr/share/fonts

I had the page open in a Firefox tab and the Tamil font appeared automatically when I copied the TTF file to mentioned folder.

Did you verify that the 11ETTamilSup.ttf font includes the Unicode range for Tamil Supplement in 11FCO-11FFF ?

The full 11000-11FFF page shows for me only little boxes with the hex code of the character, so I not having any font that covers this fairly new Unicode range.
