Mozilla site thinks I'm using Firefox 33

Mozilla's web site it keeps telling me I'm using an old version of Firefox. Whenever I view an addon, the install button is grayed out and it says in red "not compatible with Firefox 33". This despite the fact that I'm using Firefox 42, i.e., the latest stable x64 version downloaded directly from Mozilla. What's going on here and how do I fix it?

You have a masking-agent extension installed that changes the user agent:

  • User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (masking-agent; rv:33.0) Gecko/20100101

I see that at least six questions you asked before have this modified user agent.

Did this never caused a problem before? You will have to make sure that you have the correct user agent.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

Type about:support in the address bar and press Enter. Under the main banner, press the button; Copy Text To Clipboard.. Then in the reply box at the bottom of this page, do a right click in the box and select Paste. This will show us your system details. No Personal Information Is Collected.
