Open new tab page as a tab (with plus sign next to tabs) itself rather than below as a button to open a new tab page?

Alrighty, the Firefox on my Laptop (und as it's always been with Firefox for me) has the "Open a New Tab" button as a tab itself. Always to the right of the tabs I have open und is smaller with only a plus sign on it. (+) I hit that, bam a new tab page opens up, still with the + page to the right to open yet another tab if I want to.

Yet, on the desktop that I'm currently using, that option is not there. Instead, the Open a New Tab button is an actual button, customized I can move it anywhere near the browser bar, much like I could with the: Start a conversation, Current Downloads, Bookmark, home, privacy, options, etc.....buttons.

I like the functionality of opening a new tab with the Firefox on my laptop, just not on my desktop. Yet, I can't seem to find anything on how to get Open a New Tab to appear with the actual tabs themselves where it's conveniently next to the tab I'm on rather than being a button where I have to move to one side or the other of my screen to get a new tab to open up...

How to do I change it?

The image that I uploaded, "B" is what is on my desktop, "A" is what is on my Laptop. "A" is what I want on my desktop.

Don't know what you're going on about with "normal expected behaviour." I was asking how to switch from one to the other, in this case from "B" to "A" as far as my image is concerned. But, in any case, going off of your first line "The new tab button shows a plus button when the button is on the tab bar" is what answered my question...without directly answering it.

I asked how to get from one to the other, as I know both are possible. Which...to answer my question would have been:

Simply drag the customizable new tab button to the tabs above, not the toolbar with the browser bar, etc. below.

Behaviour is not what I was asking about, I was asking how to change from one to the other. But thanks, because moving the button up with the tabs is what changed it for me to what I wanted.

The new tab button shows as a plus (+) button when the button is on the Tab bar. This button is customizable and can be positioned (dragged) to another toolbar in customize mode. When this button is on another toolbar then it becomes a normal toolbar button and get another icon like you are seeing. Note that this is normal and expected behavior (a plus on a toolbar would cause confusion).

I meant to say that the new tab button is designed to behave like this: only on the Tab bar you see the button as a plus sign, on other toolbars you get the new tab icon. The Tab bar is fully customizable and can have other buttons as well like the new window button. You can place the + at the far left or at the far right after the list all tabs button.
