A theme is a type of Firefox add-on that changes the visual appearance of Firefox. This article describes how to find, install and manage themes in Firefox.

What are themes?

A theme changes the appearance of Firefox, such as the color scheme and background image of the toolbars. The color scheme of menus and built-in pages will follow, based on whether the text color on your toolbar is light or dark. Some websites also will follow the same color scheme. Firefox comes with a default System theme and optional Colorways, Light, Dark, and Alpenglow themes, but you can always install new themes.

Note: All themes are lightweight (background) themes. Complete themes are no longer supported. See Built-in themes in Firefox - alternative to complete themes.

Installing themes

  1. Click the menu button Fx89menuButton, click Add-ons and themes and select Recommendations or Themes.
  2. Scroll through the suggested themes or visit addons.mozilla.org to browse more themes.
  3. Click on the theme's author to see more information about it.
  4. Click the + Install Theme button.

Note: If you simply want to change the color scheme, Colorways by Firefox is a collection of themes you can choose from.

You can also install Mozilla's Firefox Color extension to change the color of tabs and toolbars, add a custom background, and more. See the Firefox Color Homepage for details.
