Why is it that I cannot see webcams from Earthcam.com? Is there a setting that I have set wrong?

If I want to see webcams, like from Earthcam (they have new webcams from New York of the Statue of Liberty and the harbor), I have to use Internet Explorer. I cannot use Firefox. Have I set something incorrectly or is an add-on working or not working? It's frustrating as I DO NOT want to use IE!

That is done with the Flash plugin.

Your More system details list shows the Shockwave Flash 10.3 r183 plugin, so Flash should be working

You can try to update to the latest Flash plugin.

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

If you use extensions (Tools > Add-ons > Extension) like Adblock Plus or NoScript or Flash Block that can block content then make sure that such extensions aren't blocking content.

If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.

  • Use "Disable all add-ons" on the Safe mode start window to disable all extensions.
  • Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")
