Firefox asked me to download the latest version, 4.0. I clicked "install" but received a message that my Mac is running on an OS version that is too old. I checked Firefox to see which version Firefox 4 runs on and it says Mac OS 10.5. My Mac is running on OS 10.5.8. How can I get the latest version of Firefox to install? Thanks.

Beginning with Firefox 4, Macs must have an Intel x86 processor; your system is a PPC Mac.

Note to everyone. Firefox 4 is no longer maintained or updated and contains known security issues that will not be fixed. Use it at your own risk. Beginning with Firefox 4, each new release thereafter, replaces the prior version and the prior version is abandoned as to updates. As of this reply, 11-10-2011, Firefox 4 through Firefox 7.0.1 are no longer maintained or updated and all contain security or stability issues.

The good news is that Firefox 3.6.24 (which you have installed) still supports the PPC Mac architecture. The bad news is that support for the Firefox 3.6.x series is likely to end in the first quarter of 2012.

You can try the third-party product TenFourFox that supports PPC Macs. Firefox 8 version of TenFourFox is available. The product is based on Firefox released versions. All support is provided by the developer, not by this site:
