when first loading 4.0, the add on option showed me the web page. after playing with my setting, i now just see the "what are add ons" panel without the "continue" button. when i try to go to firefox.com and use add ons, i no longer see the regular page, but rather just a list of links. how do i fix this?

Is the date / time set correctly on your PC?

yes. it is like there is an adobe flash or java script problem. i solved it by creating an new user profile... thanks anyway.

Lets not be rediculious, I have a Time server and it is always up to date. This is a redundant answer.
