Open Profile folder/directory in Linux Zorin.

I can't see how to navigate back to the "~/.var/app, etc" folder.

Can you follow the animation? It shows doing it.

The file chooser will open in your Home folder. From there open the ".var" folder, then "app", then "org.mozilla.thunderbird", then ".thunderbird". You will now be in the profiles folder where you will find your profile to be selected.

It all looks very good, but a silly amateur problem. I am at the stage where I have the “Create Profile Folder”. You then seem to click on the Thunderbird folder which opens up a test folder, but when I click the Thunderbird folder it just minimises the Thunderbird app.

I'm confused. There is no step in this procedure that says “Create Profile Folder”, and you don't need to create any folders since they're already there. Please describe where you're seeing this and/or where what you're seeing diverges from my instructions or animation.

Sorry Lin, it is me. i think i misunderstood a previous animation. I think i understand now, so i will try it. will this be the same procedure for another 2 related email addresses i'd like to add? I'll try it again now and let you know, but I'm not young and not good at typing and IT.

This procedure imports your entire Thunderbird profile from the old computer, including all settings, add-ons, email accounts, folders, filters, everything. Essentially a duplication of your old computer's Thunderbird setup.

If you later want to add more email accounts that aren't already there, go to <Account Settings | + Add Account button | Mail Account> and the wizard will lead you through the process.

I did complete the procedure (I think) and launched Thunderbird but I had to re-register, ie. put in the server details etc, as if I using Thunderbird for the first time. I didn’t expect that; I thought I’d get to the already existing version that I’ve used for the last couple of weeks.

When I got to the last step, choose Thunderbird, I had 3 to choose from. I chose the most recent. They were Thunderbird (5 August), and Thunderbird (23 May), abd Thunderbird_esr (5 August). I chose the first, but I think I should have chosen the earlier one.

I will try the others after dinner, and if it works I will try to add the other 2 email addresses (both are linked to @freeuk.com). I will of course also let you know if I have any success.

Lin, I think I understand your procedures but I think my earlier attempts have changed things in a way I don’t understand, and there may be a further possible confusion. On top of transferring my profile (for gwmonitor), I also want to transfer 2 other gwmonitor email addresses. As I am loading on the profiles for 3 related addresses (copying the folder from Windows) and as far as I knew there were 2 email addresses that I’d loaded, the original gwmonitor address (without it’s history, etc) and a new GW Monitor that I’d later set up for some reason.

Some things that I think need clearing up (all on Zorin) are:

In my “about profiles” tab I have 4 profiles already: Profile: default-release Profile: default Profile: 3 Profile: GW Monitor

In my “Open profiles” tab I have 8 Folder and 2 .ini files (installs and profiles): Old Profile W Profile (meaning the profiles from Windows) Thunderbird Crash reports Pending pings and 3 with coded titles

I’m pretty sure there are things that I have erroneously put in.

Although I think I’ve followed your directions accurately, the Zorin profiles sections had been previously altered. I mean added to or deleted from, I haven’t opened or altered the folders themselves. (I also tried deleting Thunderbird completely and starting with a fresh copy but that didn’t work.)

Please let me know if I’m too IT-ignorant and needy and time-consuming for you, I’d quite understand.
