Starting today, every time I try to conduct a search using Google or Bing, a message comes up saying:

Warning: Potential Security Risk Ahead

Firefox detected an issue and did not continue to 24infonews.live. The website is either misconfigured or your computer clock is set to the wrong time.

It’s likely the website’s certificate is expired, which prevents Firefox from connecting securely. If you visit this site, attackers could try to steal information like your passwords, emails, or credit card details.

Today is the first time I have ever seen this message. What's up?

I got;

Your connection is not secure

The owner of 24infonews.live has configured their website improperly. To protect your information from being stolen, Firefox has not connected to this website.

24infonews.live uses an invalid security certificate.

The certificate expired on December 11, 2021 at 3:40 AM. The current time is December 11, 2021 at 7:53 PM.

Error code: SEC_ERROR_EXPIRED_CERTIFICATE

As you can see from the message above, the website's certificate expired several hours ago.

You can check the connection settings.

  • Settings -> General -> Network: Connection -> Settings

If you do not need to use a proxy to connect to internet then try to select "No Proxy" if "Use the system proxy settings" or one of the others do not work properly.

See "Firefox connection settings":

I think your browser is hijacked. Neither Google nor Bing should redirect to that third party site.

If changing your proxy server setting doesn't bypass the intruder, the next two things to check are:

(1) Rogue Add-one (2) External malware

Here's how:

(1) Flushing Bad Add-ons

You can view, disable, and often remove unwanted or unknown extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a (Mac: Command+Shift+a)
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
  • type or paste about:addons in the address bar and press Enter/Return

In the left column of the Add-ons page, click Extensions. On the right side, find the "Manage Your Extensions" heading.

If there is at least one extension before the next heading -- "Recommended Extensions" -- please continue:

Then cast a critical eye over the list below that heading. Any extensions Firefox installs for built-in features are hidden from this page, so everything listed here is your choice (and your responsibility) to manage. Anything that mentions search, or privacy, or sounds suspicious, or that you just do not remember installing or why? If in doubt, disable (or remove). For your privacy and security, don't let mystery programs linger here.

Any improvement?

Note: If the Add-ons page is inaccessible or blank, try using Firefox's Troubleshoot Mode for the above steps, in case the add-on is blocking the page. You can restart Firefox in Safe/Troubleshoot Mode using either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > Help > Troubleshoot Mode... (before Fx88: Restart with Add-ons Disabled)
  • (menu bar) Help menu > Troubleshoot Mode... (before Fx88: Restart with Add-ons Disabled)

and OK the restart. A small dialog should appear. Click the Open button (before Fx88: "Start in Safe Mode" button).

Note: Don't use the Refresh without first reviewing this article to understand what will be deleted: Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings.

Fixing Settings

After disabling or removing unwanted add-ons, you may need to clean up some settings, such as:

(2) Cleaning External Malware

Our support article has recommendations for free (or free trial) cleaning tools other Firefox users have found helpful: Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware.
