I am a new Thunderbird user & I am having multiple problems figuring things out. Two very basic Q's, pls: 1) I somehow added a search field in the bottom toolbar... now, I can't undo it. How do I remove the search field in the toolbar? 2) I have also tried & tried to make the font larger in my inbox. There are different settings that seem to purport to adjust font sizes, but I can't get any to work.

I'm sure that there are existing threads that have long since answered these Q's. Hopefully, someone can direct me to those discussions. Thx. John

Menu app icon (3 horizontal lines) > Customise > Toolbar Layout Left click and hold down on unwanted 'search' to grab and then drag back onto the 'customise' window.

The following allows you to set a larger font throughout Thunderbird, so all font is larger.

  • Menu app icon > Options > General
  • Scroll down to the very bottom
  • click on 'Config Editor' button to open 'about:config'

It will say be careful :)

  • In search type: pixels
  • Look for this line: layout.css.devPixelsPerPx
  • Double left click on that line to open the 'Enter string Value' box so you can edit the Value.

The default value will be a negative value: -1.0

  • Enter a new positive number eg: 1.25 or 1.5 or 2.0 or 2.2
  • click on OK

the effect is immediate, so you can modify that number until it looks ok for you.

I had previously answered a question regarding font size in Write window and also in Message Pane. I suggest you give this link a read as it contains a lot more information about fonts. Remember font size in Thunderbird is pixels not points, eg: 16 pixels is about 12 points and 13 px = 10pt
