Goes into a cycle of updating when no update is needed. Keeps trying to make me restart my system to address a mythical update. At this point, I've autoupdate and update in the background functionality totally. Will check and instigate myself in the future. It just gets annoying. But there is clearly some reason why it's doing this -- some error in the code.

Do you use Kaspersky?

No - I use a combination of AVGFree and MalwareBytes Premium.

The C:\ProgramData\Mozilla\updates folder contains subfolders for each TB and Firefox version installed. View the updates.xml file in a text editor to see which one is for TB. Deleting the subfolder, with TB closed, sometimes stops incorrect notifications.

If you have the AVG Updater utility, that could also be interfering.

Deleted the subfolder .. don't have the AVGUpdater Utility -- just the plain AVGFree. For now have turned off the background update option and using the "tell me when an update is available" option. Will have to see if this works ..

Just a point.... when diagnosing an issue, changing two things at the same time makes working out what the root cause it quite difficult. It it does work, was it the change to the updates or the removal of the folder that did it? Even if you don't care, it is that sort of knowledge that makes support better and can feed into bug fixing.

I've been having an issue with TB68 updating to 78 with known issues of loss of address books and calendars. I've Kaspersky with software updater off, have uninstalled the Mozilla mainenance programme, unchecked install in background and Windows 10 with deferred updates to Windows and no other option plus I have configured TB to notify before install. Other forums state that TB servers prevent updates to 78 from 68. I've reinstalled TB52 from my original download and seen it update to 60 to 68 to 78. I'm sur e78 will be ok when the add ons work
