How can I set Thunderbird to return to the inbox when I delete a message rather than show the next message?

How can I set Thunderbird to return to the inbox when I delete a message rather than show the next message? There used to be an option to do this in older versions, then there used to be a script that I could run to set it but now I can't find anything. It seems such a simple and obvious option that I can't understand why it's been removed, but does anyone know how to sort it please?
