I am a first time Thunderbird user and it is downloading emails as it should. I am trying it out with my Hotmail account. It is not however, importing my address book or calendar from Hotmail. I tried it with my Outlook 365 account and got the same result.

I assumed the "synchronize" button at the top left of the calendar would do this but it hasn't worked. I can't find an equivalent button in the address book section. Is there a setting I need to change?

Chosen solution

Thunderbird is an email client. It uses the email protocols to manage your email messages. These protocols do no include address or calendar data.

For your address book in hotmail, you'll probably have to export it. The usual option is a CSV (comma separated values) file, which Thunderbird can import.

If you have been using a local address book, this article may be useful:

I suspect you'll have to do something similar with the calendar. You may be able to export it to a file which can also be imported into Lightning. If it supports caldav you may be able to link a Lightning calendar to the hotmail calendar.
