How do I combine two separate Bookmarks lists?

more options

Under View -> Sidebar -> Bookmarks there exists a L-O-N-G list of folders and individual site bookmarks.

There is ONE ENTRY for "Bookmarks Menu" and following that are TWO independent lists of one set of Folders and individual bookmarks, THEN a SECOND set of Folders is followed by another list of individual bookmarks. Neither of these sets' entries are duplicates of the other.

How can I merge the two of them so that I have one set of FOLDERS followed by one set of INDIVIDUAL Bookmarks - so that I can sort the entire list alphabetically?

Currently, when I Right-Click on the "Bookmarks Menu" I am shown options that include the "Sort by Name" choice. When I choose "Sort by Name" *ONLY* the first set of FOLDERS & INDIVIDUAL bookmark entries become sorted alphabetically.

Ideally I'd like to have BOTH lists be merged and sorted.

How this happened (the existence of two sets of FOLDERS & INDIVIDUAL bookmark lists) I do not know.

Your help, anyone's help, is greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

If you sort the Bookmarks Menu folder, all the bookmarks below that will be sorted as far as a Separator - a horizontal line. Delete the Separators to sort everything.

Well, Mr Edmeister, deleting the horizontal line did solve the problem.

Now, I would not have thought that that horizontal line was user-accessible.

A follow-up question, if you will: Is there a place on the computer wherein I can manually access the Bookmarks (like in I.E. one can access the "Favorites" folder) so that I can display the list, open folders and compare them - using two separate windows for comparison - to tidy up this gargantuan mess ... er, I mean "list" ??? =8-)

Thanks for your instantaneous-like correct & helpful response!!!

What you can do is use the library. That has a tree view on one side and the detail on the other. Use Bookmarks -> Organise bookmarks (wording may vary, ? - show all bookmarks ? )

You are able to drag and drop or copy and paste folders, and select lists of bookmarks using keyboard shortcut Ctrl +A

The bookmarks are stored in a sqlite database you will normally work with them in firefox, or using a firefox extension they are not stored as files in folders

For instance to sort two folders quickly into one. using the firefox bookmark library If you

  1. create a 2 new folders named say unsorted-one and sorted-two
  2. copy both sets of bookmarks into the one folder 'unsorted-one'
  3. use the sort option to sort alphabetically the unsorted-one
  4. copy and past into sorted-two that is now in alpha order
  5. delete the old folders that you do not require, re-name remaining folder if required

Thank you, John99, I'll give that a try.
