Email notifications reappearing after being dismissed

dav.nik

Hi All,

I have a Galaxy S22 running android 16 and have been getting the standard email notifications for each of my inboxes.

Recently I get a duplicate notification appear for a new email almost immediately after I clear the notifications screen or swipe it away.

I was hoping an update would solve the issue but I updated it once since it began but the issue remains. I have done all the basic troubleshooting steps like cleared cache, stopped app, restarted device etc. but nothing seems to work.

I havent uninstalled the app yet because I didnt want to risk losing anything important, but if thats the next logical step aside from a configuration change I will do it as these notifications are becoming rather annoying. Help please!

Do you have "Enable Sync" or "Notifications" turned on for Gmails "All Mail" folder, or a similar folder or label if your provider has one. This can cause duplicate emails to show and possibly duplicate notifications. Confirmation will help rule this out.

To check

  1. Open the side bar with your account and folders listed
  2. Tap managed folders (bottom of list)
  3. Tap "All Mail" or folder with similar purpose
  4. Confirm "Enable Sync" is OFF
  5. Confirm "Notifications" is OFF

There's been a spike in notification related issues being reported. Developers are managing these with high priority. See this github milestone for more information.

Do you use Thunderbird Desktop with client side rules to move mails to a different folder? See github ticket: https://github.com/thunderbird/thunderbird-android/issues/7768

If none of the sub issues on the milestone reflect your issue, please create a new bug report here.
