Passwords from previous versions
Hello. My Windows 10 suddenly crashed, so I reinstalled on a new hard drive, with the latest version of Firefox. My old Firefox, was completely up to date but still used the Key3.db file for my saved logins, and it will not work with the newest version. I tried creating a new profile and pasting the logins.json and key3.db files, as suggested by an old Firefox KB article, but that doesn't work any more. Is there any way for me to get the saved logins out of the older JSON file with the Key3 file? I desperately need help with this, and would appreciate any that someone could give.
Regards, Brian Mercer.

Firefox 58 and newer use key4.db (SQLite) for the key file and no longer use key3.db (DBM), but can use key3.db as a fallback when key4.db is missing. Support for key3.db ended with Firefox 73 and newer (i.e. Firefox 72.0.2 is the last version that supported key3.db) and thus 73+ versions can't be used to migrate logins.json and key3.db to key4.db. You will have to install Firefox 72.0.2 or possibly 68.12.0 to get a logins.json and key4.db that should work in current releases. Make sure to use a separate profile for this migration.

Thank you very much. Using Windows 10 Sandbox, I downloaded Firefox 72, created a new profile and put my logins.json and key3.db files in it. I then synced logins from the sandboxed Firefox to my phone, and then to my regular desktop. Worked great. Thank you
