Need help with Thunderbird - friend who set it up is gone - please help
Dear Friends,
In 2006 or 2007 my tech friend set up my computer with Firefox and Thunderbird using Google for a free place to put my website and for me to have an email that goes to my domain name. He has been deathly sick for over 1 1/2 now, so is unable to help me.
Now Google is getting rid of the free G Suite and making everyone pay for Google Workspace - absolute deadline July 2022.
I do not understand how Thunderbird works. Can one have an email address just using Thunderbird and not have to use Google or any other email provider? I closed my business so no longer have a website, but want to keep my email that uses my domain name.
Can someone please explain how Thunderbird provides email service? If one has to have another email provider, then what is the purpose of Thunderbird?
I don't want to lose all of my email because Google is money hungry. Thank you!
With much gratitude!

Thunderbird is not an email service provider, so NO, it does not provide email service.

No, you can't. You need an email service provider and Thunderbird isn't one. Thunderbird is just a messenger. It is a desktop email client. It collects messages from your email accounts (mailboxes) hosted by your email service providers. A messenger passes a message across, from the source to the recipient. Without a source and recipient, a messenger has no job.
