Hi!

My university has just switched to cloud email and I am trying to add the new account to Thunderbird, but there seems to be an issue with two-factor authentication.

I am using the following settings:

Incoming:

   IMAP
   Server hostname: outlook.office365.com
   Port: 993
   SSL: SSL/TLS
   Authentication: Oauth2

Outgoing:

   Server hostname: smtp.office365.com
   Port: 587
   SSL: STARTTLS
   Authentication: Oauth2

and finally my email account as a username.

This is where I select my inbox and Thunderbird opens a new window of Outlook webmail prompting me to log in. I use my credential but the login fails, displaying a message that the username or password are incorrect.

Going over the web, I saw that an app password could work as a solution, however I cannot see an app password method option under the Security Info of my account here: https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info

I am using Thunderbird 78.12.0

Any ideas? Thank you in advance!

Setting up an O365 account in TB is not straightforward. Perhaps this source will help:

Thanks for replying!

After going through the link, first thing I need to do is contact an admin from my university and ask him to grant me permission to use TB, as far as I understand. Because as a non-admin, I cannot do that myself.

After that, configuration should work.
