Thunderbird 128.2.0esr (64-Bit) does not display the correct email

I hope I’ve chosen the correct category. I believe this qualifies as a bug following the recent update.

When I opened Thunderbird today, it notified me about the update. While Thunderbird successfully fetches new emails, it fails to display them correctly.

As shown in the screenshot, the area where the email content should appear is completely white. Additionally, it incorrectly displays an attachment from an old email that has nothing to do with today’s email (10:13), aside from the fact that both were sent to me.

When I click on other emails in the same inbox, the content area doesn’t change—it remains blank. However, if I switch to a different inbox, everything works fine.

I’ve also double-checked using my phone’s mail app, and I’m able to open the email in that inbox without any issues.

I’m unsure how to fix this. Could someone more knowledgeable help me out?

Since my update to Ubuntu 24.04.01 I experience issues in the thunderbird app with sending and saving messages as a draft. The error message is always only "sending of the message failed". I already tried all the points of your support website: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/cannot-send-messages#w_verify-that-your-mail-server-supports-the-minimum-version-of-tls, but this unfortunately didn't help. I also deinstalled and reinstalled thunderbird via snap. But the problem remains. My Ubuntu is version: 24.04.01 LTS My Thunderbird is version: Thunderbird 128.2.0esr I got no firewall and no antivirus software. Everything else is in the screenshot. I hope you can help me! We've got around 2000 AD-joined windows 10 boxes, with TB as the mail client, for years. Users are connected as domain users (ie, non-admins). Now IIRC, first TB version installed was 60. TB was updated throughout the years automaticall without a hitch, up to and including version 115.x.

With the advent of 128 we had started receiving calls from users stating that a message pops-up asking for credentials. Taking a closer look we discovered that each and every installation needed admin credentials to be able to do the upgrade to 128.

Is this a bug or normal behaviour? It is definitely a problem, especially for small organizations that do not know how to install manually an MSI of the latest version.

Hi, my thunderbird account has suddenly stopped downloading emails, and comes up with the message "Unable to write the email to the mailbox. Make sure the file system allows you write privileges, and you have enough disc space to copy the mailbox." I have tried deleting lots of emails, and clearing the deleted folder and clearing the cashae, but it does not make any difference. Whenever I search, I always prefer the "Show results as a list," presentation but the view shown is always the one with the stats and I have to then click "show results as a list." Is there a way to have that screen come up initially so I don't always have to request it?

My name is Maria. I have been using Thunderbird for a while now and have recently run into some issues. The app interface is broken and I can no longer see the graphic design/proper email layout. There is also the issue that it appears my email is forwarding the emails I receive back to my email, rather than getting mail directly from the sender. I have attached an image below so you can see what I mean.

I have tried updating and restarting both the app and my computer, going so far as to remove and reinstall Thunderbird, but nothing has helped. Please let me know what I can do! I am wondering if I somehow changed the code on my end? I have no idea.

I just started setting up Thunderbird and I have come across a bug. At least, I think it's a bug.

The situation: I'm viewing favorite folders and unified folders. What I want, is to show some unified folders in my favorite folders. That is, my unified inbox, drafts, and sents. So, I right click on them, I select "✅ Favorite folder" and they appear among my favorite folders. All good, right? However... When I restart Thunderbird, the unified inboxes have disappeared from my favorite folders. And when I right click them, it still says they are marked as "✅ Favorite folder" And the way to make them reappear is by deselecting and reselecting them as favorite folders. See the picture.

So, what is happening? Is this a bug? My guess is that it is. Could anyone help me to circumvent this?

I have 4 email account using Thunderbird. These are all domain imap email accounts. They work via the web hosting mail (Yahoo/Turbify). I can access many different ways: Outlook on my iPhone and iPads, Thunderbird on my desktop Mac Pro. There was some sort of tech issue at Turbify where all 4 account are hosted but all email was restored and password were reset.

However, only one account jeff@jeffmunk.com no longer work on Thunderbird, perhaps the most import one. I checked both the imap settings and smtp setting and the authentication and recommended ports and I still can't get that one account to work - but only on Thunderbird. It works retrieving from mail from Yahoo and Outlook, both phone apps or a browser on the desktop. I think I has this issue once before.

I have experienced a worrying problem since a few days on Thunderbird client (Windows).

I recently received anonymous emails on my ISP mailbox. The sender has been disguised with display name of some of my recent recipients, but the sender is not visible when I open the message. The mail subject is also taken up from these recent emails. Each of these emails contains one of my personal family photos! These suspicious messages are only visible on Thunderbird 128.2.0esr (64 bits) Windows and not on web mail in a browser nor on the mail client of my smartphone!

Inspection of the message source in Thunderbird does not show the email header... but only the binary code of the image that has been included as an attachment.

It appears these incoming messages were modified locally in Thunderbird because I can see the original and valid emails from the senders in a web browser or from my smartphone. I suspect a malware is corrupting some inbox messages in Thunderbird. Norton did not detect any malware on my PC. Malwarebytes has quarantined a few PUPs/MUPs.

Only one of my mailboxes is affected by this problem. Is there any known vulnerability in Thunderbird similar to this report? How can I block this kind of alteration of incoming mail?

I have problems with my folder structure after renaming mail folders. I'm using TB115.15.0 on Ubuntu 22.04, my uni is using outlook as a mail service config'ed with OAuth2. In settings->server->advanced, I have ticked the "show only subscribed" and "server supports folders" options.

A week ago, I have renamed folders, e.g. 3-class-2023-24-this to 4-class-2023-24-last using TB. The structure/renaming shows up correctly when viewing with the outlook web client.

But the old folder 3-class with its content still shows up in grey/italics. In the 'subscibe' menu, I can unsubscribe and submit. But no change in the folder presentation, and when I re-open subscribe, I'm shown this old folder still with a tick as being subscribed to. Similarly for the renamed: It is show as subscribed to at top level, but none of its subfolders. Subscribing to them makes no change, i.e. no subfolders added in the folder structure, and a subsequent subscribe view shows no change in their subscription status, still opens without a tick.

I've seen a lot of posts about ghost folders, with the issue being server side. However asking MS to fix their outlook server protocols for TB seems futile. And our IT service does not officially support TB. This is an annual change-over, and I even tried the brute force delete/add the mail account, but TB has remembered the username ans still gives me the same defective structure in the subscribe window, but now only shows the Inbox. I see no means of making the other folders visible.
