Firefox starts opening up endless sessions when I select an Excel spreadsheet from a shortcut on my desktop. How can I stop this?
I have folders on my desktop containing shortcuts to Excel spreadsheets. When I use one these shortcuts to get to an Excel spreadsheet, Mozilla opens up a Mozilla session, and then another, and then another, its just endless. The only way I can get out of it is to power off my machine. When I go to Excel on my Startup menu and access the same Excel files I access the Excel spreadsheets, and Mozilla does not start opening up endless Mozilla sessions.

You can't use Firefox to open Excel spreadsheets.
See Firefox repeatedly opens empty tabs or windows after you click on a link
In Firefox: Tools > Options > Applications tab, make sure that Excel files are designated to open in the external Excel application or is set to "Always ask."
If the shortcuts lead to a Sharepoint server or other intranet site, you might ask your administrator whether the page at the URL is sending the correct content type.
Edit: Actually, that's the second point in the article at the above link.

SUCCESS at LAST
1. I right clicked on a short cut to an Excel spreadsheet 2. selected OPEN WITH and 3. selected CHOOSE PROGRAM and 4. under Recommended programs I highlighted Microsoft Office Excel 5. selected the box titled Always use the selected program to open this kind of file 6. pressed OK to complete this change
When I first did this right click on the short cut Firefox was highlighted as the program to use to open this kind of program, and I all I did was change it to Excel. I don't know what caused this to be changed, but I am now able to open my Excel spreadsheets directly from the short cuts.
Thank you for your suggestion, it didn't work but made me look in another direction. It made me rethink the shortcut itself and I right clicked on it and did the the above and my system is back to normal.
Thank you again.
