Thunderbird tells me that the spectrum servers won't accept my password

stynee

I have installed Thunderbird to work with my spectrum email account. I had successfully installed it and was even able to recieve emails, but could not sent them. I uninstalled it, reinstalled it and now I can't receive emaill either. The settings for the servers and my username (fulll email address) all look correct per spectrum's website. Whenever I enter my password into Thunderbird I get:

"Login to server mobile.charter.net with username stynee@ca.rr.com failed."

Next steps?

Update: Thanks for Gemini, I got what looks like a solution. It offered several, but here's what specifically worked for me: "Delete or clear out any generic or leftover SMTP entries that point to "smtp.spectrum.net" or localhost, and make sure your active account is explicitly pointing to mail.twc.com on Port 587 with SSL/TLS (or STARTTLS) enabled." -- My account was pointing to a charter address, so this allowed me to receive email.

I still couldn't send so the suggestion was: "Check the Connection security dropdown. If it is currently set to SSL/TLS, change it to STARTTLS, click Save, and test sending again." -- I changed the outgoing to STARTTLS and sent a message to a gmail account I have. The message arrived in the gmail account, but Thunderbird is displaying a message that it is still sending it. The fix:

"Turn off "Place a copy" for Sent messages. Go to Account Settings in Thunderbird. Click on Copies & Folders under your Spectrum/TWC account name (not the global settings).Look for the section labeled "When sending messages, automatically".Uncheck the box for "Place a copy in" (or change it from trying to save to a remote folder that the legacy TWC server is struggling to sync with). Click OK and restart Thunderbird.Once disabled, your emails will zip right out without hanging on the status bar.

This worked. I thought I'd leave this for others' reference.
