Stop clearing my settings

more options

Every time I open Firefox and go to You Tube my You Tube settings are gone. I hate that so much. How do I fix it? I don't want to redo the settings every time. I have it so all my tabs are still there when I open Firefox. That is perfect, I love that. But my You Tube settings are always cleared. It is so annoying. I never watch You Tube videos on Firefox anymore because of it.

I would think they save your settings in your account. Are you signed in to your Google account when you go to YouTube, or are you using YouTube anonymously?

Some of your settings might be saved purely locally in the browser using either the cookies or site data feature. If you have Firefox set to clear cookies and site data when you close it, you could create an exception for YouTube. Note: this assumes you are not using private windows for YouTube. Here are two ways to do that:

(1) Page Info dialog

While you are on a page on YouTube, call up the Page Info dialog using one of these methods:

  • Ctrl+i (for Mac, Command+i)
  • (menu bar) Tools > Page Info

When the dialog comes up, click the Permission icon at the top to show that panel.

Scroll down to "Set Cookies" and uncheck the "Use default" box, and then select Allow to let the site set persistent cookies that aren't cleared at shutdown.

(2) Manage Exceptions dialog

On Settings page, Privacy & Security panel, scroll down to the "Cookies and Site Data" section.

Click the Manage Exceptions... button. In the dialog that pops up, under "Address of website", paste

https://youtube.com

and click Allow. (Or if a country-specific site is involved, change .com to the relevant extension.)

Then click Save Changes.
