"show alert" and "play a sound" only when when in Thunderbird. I want to be notified of new emails when I am not in Thunderbird !
I have selected the 'show alert' and 'play a sound' but they only work when I am using Thunderbird. I want to be notified of new emails when I am not using Thunderbird. How do I correct this?

If Thunderbird is not running then there is no "process " or "application" to check for your mail. Simple really leave Thunderbird running. Microsoft have their "windows mail" program running all the time. You can not close it. That is why you get notification of new mail.
