Up to a certain date, if I clicked on a folder in bookmarks, a menu of individual sites would open and stay open, even though I moved my cursor away. Then one day it wouldn't. I can't imagine why this feature was dropped, or why there has never been an add-on to restore it. Have I missed some setting? Over the years, noone has had a clue what I was talking about. It's as though that feature never existed.

It is not a feature it is something it is suppose to do by design. It will stay open only if you have a Folder and click on the folder the bookmarks slide out. if you move the mouse away it will stay open but as soon as click on something it closes by design.

If your saying it stayed open while you clicked other things then I am at a loss. So you are going to have to answer this so it gets kicked back to Needs A Response long list....

My problem is it does *not* stay open if I move the mouse away.

That is what it used to do. I would click on a folder, and the bookmarks would slide out and stay there until I clicked on something else (or of course if I clicked the link in the folder it would open). Then one day it stopped doing that. I have to leave the cursor in contact with the folder icon or name until I slide the cursor from the folder icon or name onto the list of links in the folder. Once the folder's menu is open, it will stay open as long as I keep the cursor within the menu. If you can tell me how to fix this you will have my undying thanks.

On my folders if I click on a folder and move the mouse pointer to the left of the bookmarks drop down list the opened folder list closes. If I move the mouse pointer to the right off of the drop down list the list stays open. Does that help you?

If *I* move the mouse pointer to the right off the drop down list, it closes.

Sorry it doesn't work the same for you. It may be something to do with Classic Theme Restorer that is still working on my 56.0.2. Looked through the choices but didn't see anything that mentioned it there.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Appearance
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

Hi Redbassguitar, are you using the Bookmarks menu up on the classic top menu bar, or the Bookmarks menu that drops from the toolbar button (on Firefox 57: )?

I agree that the folders should stay open: in Firefox 56, mine stayed open, and I find in Firefox 59 ("Nightly" test version), the folders stick open. I assume Firefox 57 is similar. However, if I mouse over some other items on the menu, Firefox will do whatever normally happens when you mouse over that kind of item, but if I am moving the mouse off the folder, off the menu, it just sticks open. So you're not suffering from an intentional change.

When the "star" button changed styles show a panel for 3 seconds (for example, after pressing Ctrl+d to add a new bookmark), some users reported their panel closed well short of 3 seconds, as though Firefox through they had pressed Esc or interacted with something else in the UI, even though they hadn't. Do you have that problem, too?

jscher2000, as to the star button *or* ctrl D, it seems to alternate between staying open and closing after a few seconds!

cor-el, I didn't see your response until now. I will try your suggestions. I have never had any but the default appearance.
