Recently I've been having lots of issues with the browser.

Mid way through a browsing session, the screen will turn black, firefox will freeze and then it will eventually crash.

I'm careful to not have too many tabs open etc but it keeps happening.

Will post a screenshot of recent error messages in comments for any technical advice please.

Would appreciate all help in resolving this issue and I won't want to go back to IE

Try to update to Firefox 33.1.1 if you already haven't, see Help > About.

Try to disable OMTC and leave hardware acceleration in Firefox enabled.

  • about:config page: layers.offmainthreadcomposition.enabled = false

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.

You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"

You need to close and restart Firefox after toggling this setting.

You can check if there is an update for your graphics display driver.
