Firefox since May or April has been deleting my history automatically. Since May Firefox deletes the month prior to the one that just ended. So when it turned May March was wiped. When June came April was wiped. Pattern could have started earlier but I first noticed it when March was deleted.

Until now. Was opening up history to check Bookmarks and saw July is already gone. At least to pattern of last few months that should have nto deleted until September 1st.

I have always have Remember History checked off and it has worked for more than 4 years so I do not not what is wrong. For the history option when I click Custom History settings and it comes up with the square check mark blanks I hit okay to see if it works. When I open up again it goes back to the Remember History Option. Not sure if that is glitch or not or suppose to act like that or if it has anything to do with history randomly deleting.

If anyone has any ideas to fix this thta would be great. really frustrating that my history keep deleting.

How many web pages do you visit during a month?

You can check that in the History Manager (Library: Show All History) by entering a common character like a colon (:) in the search bar. You can click the results pane and press Ctrl+A to select all items and see the total below the pane with the history items.

Current Firefox versions keep a maximum number of visited page and do not have a time limit for the history. Firefox determines automatically how many pages can be kept without affecting the performance. You can see the current value of this maximum as the value of the read-only pref places.history.expiration.transient_current_max_pages on the about:config page.

You may have cleanup or other security software that is scheduled to remove older history every month if it happens that strictly.

17,000 but can be higher. I read a lot of news articles for different things and Wikipedia articles. Do you know why Firefox implemented this. Most I know is the version release schedule and the release notes that crime out for new version, beta and aurora every 6 weeks?

Does it have to do with Firefox being notoriously bad with memory usage? And this is just another patch attempt to deal with memory usage while till not having a huge push to knock down memory usage. Lats update made it worse ever.

For telling how many history items there are I remember back to 2012 I think when you could just click on and scroll down the side scroll bar in history window and it would automatically display number of items on bottom of window. Much easier that way.

Thanks for reply. Stinks that we dont have option to keep history like it use to be.

Problems with bookmarks and history not working properly can be caused by a corrupted places.sqlite database file.

Open a new tab or window. type about:support in the address box and press enter. Or Press the Alt or F10 key to bring up the tool bar. Then Help > Troubleshooting Information.

Under the page logo on the left side you will see Application Basics. Under this find Profile Folder. To it’s right press the button Show Folder. This will open your file browser to the current Firefox profile. Now Close Firefox.

Locate the file. Then rename or delete it. Restart Firefox.
