Thunderbird will stop taking messages off the server and into my Inbox when some attachments come in. What can I do about this?

I will tell Thunderbird to get messages off my server. There have been many occasions when it will get a message with an attachment, then it will stop completely. The only way I can fix this is to go on my server, delete the message that has just been retrieved with the attachment, and then retrieve in Thunderbird again. This is taking a lot of unnecessary time.

turn off the anti virus mail scanner that is failing. I think that will solve the problem.
