Hello,

You're running the latest version of Firefox, so there's no update available.

Can you attach a screenshot of the message, or at least post the link the message points to?

You may have visited a site that popped up a false update notice, your system may be infested with malware, or you may have a third-party update checker application (like the one included with Avast anti-virus) that's incorrectly identifying your version of Firefox as outdated.

Hi there,

The message would come up whenever i started my machine.

Just after i posted the first message i went through firefox about, checking for updates and it seems this corrected the problem and it confirmed i am using 28. The message was coming through windows action center, but as you said i think it was my Avast Intenet Security casuing the error.

I tried rebooting to get a screenshot of the message when it pops up at startup, but its not coming up anymore, so am sure this is resolved.

Thank you very much for the help, and i will be sure to post a screeen if it happens again :)

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.

You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.

Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.

Hi again,

It seems this is not resolved as i thought. But i managed to grab a screenshot this time. I honestly am not sure what could be causing this.

I ran a scan with Avast and Malwarebytes and both came up clean so dont think it is a malware, but am honestly as i said not to sure anymore.

It only came up again this afternoon when i got home.

I don't think Microsoft would display a message like that.

Run several of the listed malware scanners. Each works differently. If one program misses something, another may pick it up.

Hold down the Shift key (On Mac the Options key) while starting Firefox to start in Safe Mode. Then see if it still happens.

That does look suspicious, but it could be genuine: as an example, see this post on the Kaspersky forum.

In any case, you do still have the latest version of Firefox and scanning for malware is still a good idea. "Stopped working properly" is Microsoft's euphemistic way of saying a program has crashed. When you next exit Firefox, open the Windows Task Manager and check if firefox.exe is stuck running in the background.

If it's not, then I don't see what problem the report could be referring to. In the Windows Action Center, try clearing out all archived messages and all unreported problems. Maybe it'll stop nagging you then (if the message is genuine, that is).
