An erroneous web address is loaded into the Firefox opening sequence and it tries to automatically open this address repeatedly 1000's of times and freezes the whole application.

Hi r.hagell,

You should take a look at the Knowledge Base article Firefox repeatedly opens empty tabs or windows after you click on a link. There is a lot of good troubleshooting information in there.

Hopefully this helps!

I did this but Firefox needs to be open and accessible to do most of this and I can't use it when I try to open it because of the problem. It just keeps trying to open these bogus sites. This takes up all the RAM and put the whole computer out of business.

One fix tells me how to fix it without opening Firefox but the details on which menus to open and where to go do not apply to my MacBook Pro with Lion installed.

The instructions for doing this with Firefox closed for my Mac do not work. The list of menus and tabs does not exist. I can't do anything with Firefox open.

You can delete the mimeTypes.rdf file in the Firefox Profile Folder to reset all file actions.

You can delete the sessionstore.js file and possible sessionstore-##.js files with a number and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.

Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note or bookmark them).
