I am trying to move Firefox to my wife's new computer. I have pulled the HD out of the old computer and have linked it to the computer I'm typing on via a USB port. On it, I can navigate to the Profiles directory but when I attempt to copy it to my HD on this computer, I get this error:

    0X80004005: Unspecified error

I've reviewed pages by searching on the error code but nothing comes up that is relevant. I've cleared permissions on the Profiles directory and all its files ... to no avail.

I'm stumped. Any suggestions?

Put the drive back in the old computer, log into it and setup sync. Then on the new computer, just log into sync and watch the magic. Simple right... ;-) https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-set-sync-my-computer https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-choose-what-information-sync-firefox

The old drive went south. I had to use some data recovery tools in order to read the old files but it is no longer a bootable drive. Thus, the ad hoc scheme for getting all the data off the old drive and onto the new one. If not for that, your suggestion would be the way to go.

You can try to start File Explorer as administrator or use another file manager to see whether that allows to copy files off the hard drive.
