Intermittently unable to open a new window/tab, the little dot just keeps flashing back and forth. If I get out of firefox and re load it is back to normal for a short period then goes back to the problem.

Some problems occur when your Internet security program was set to trust the previous version of Firefox, but no longer recognizes your updated version as trusted. Now how to fix the problem: To allow Firefox to connect to the Internet again;

  • Make sure your Internet security software is up-to-date (i.e. you are running the latest version).
  • Remove Firefox from your program's list of trusted or recognized programs. For detailed instructions, see

Thank you for your response. Is it possible that doing what you suggest will fix the problem knowing that I can open new windows/tabs after closing down Firefox and re starting and when I start the desktop in the morning. Sometimes I can open many windows/tabs other times maybe only one or two. Confused?

We won't know if this solves the problem until you try it.

Another thing to try; Start Firefox using Troubleshoot(Safe) Mode {web link}

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Troubleshoot(Safe) Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

Start your Computer in safe mode with network support. Then start Firefox. Try Secure websites. Is the problem still there?
