For years I have been able to watch a certain tv show online, ads and all. Now they suddenly tell me to switch off my adblocker or the video will be in black and white only. But I never installed an adblocker so I have no idea what they're on about or where to look for it. Is it built in into Firefox? And if so what's the name and where can I find it to shut it off? And if it's not in Firefox how can I find out where it is?

It must have been a hick-up of some sort because now everything is working as before. I didn't even have the time to look into it any further, let alone change anything. Thanks for all your ideas, they might be useful later.

Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes).

If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:

  • Click the menu button New Fx Menu, click Help Help-29 and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.

If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:

  • On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
  • On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
  • On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode
(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)

When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, theme, or hardware acceleration. Please follow the steps in the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause.

To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help others with the same problem.

If you use proxy software to connect then it is possible that some content is blocked.

Did you try this with a direct connection ("No proxy" or possible "Use the system proxy settings")?

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > Network : Connection > Settings

The proxy settings didn't change, in fact nothing changed in my pc because I haven't used it for almost a week. I tried anyway but it didn't help. However to use Firefox in safe mode did solve the problem, the video is in colour now as usual. But I get no ads anymore so there's still something not entirely right. I'll check my add-ons for that but for the time being I'm happy you found a solution for me, thanks guys.

What is the actual site. Presumably it is free to view and funded by advertisements. Others maybe able to test it.
