Byte rate downloads?
I like to see an actual download rate and not a blue progress bar countingdown in seconds

Hello,
I am assuming you clicked on the Download tool on your menu bar. If you don't mind installing extensions:
Otherwise, you can see the transfer rate by clicking "Show All Downloads" which will either open the about:downloads page, or your Library window. You can also access these pages by going to Tools > Downloads.
Also note that your Firefox is outdated, the latest version is 33.0.2. You can update by going to:
- Help > About, or
- Download a fresh copy: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/
- (If you need a different localization): https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/

I had the same question and I am on 33.0.2 Why should a plugin be necessary ? I try to avoid adding plugins due to concern for security
Shouldn't if be as simple as changing an option?
