I am not able to add sites to my "New Tab" window.
I tried opening the bookmarks menu to "show all bookmarks" and drag my bookmarked sites to the blank box on the screen but it only goes directly to the site. When I open a new tab again, the bookmarked site is not there on the new tab screen. Do I need to change my Firefox settings to remember my history in order for this feature to work?

Yes you need change to Remember history option
