Firefox is not saving preferences - very frustrating

Hi everyone, this morning i've updated firefox from 10 to 12 and after that it refuses to save any changes that i've made. i've done all of the suggestions from other post but non is working. it is very frustrating. every time i start firefox i get the set firefox as default browser, welcome to firefox page and do you know firefox is free. OS: Win XP SP3 i've also tried disable anti virus software and at this point i'm out of ideas. please help!!!! Thank you very much for the help!!!!

hi cor-el, thanks for the info but i've tried everything that has been suggested on those posts but i'm still having the same problem. actually its worst now cuz instead of opeing 2 tabs its opening 4 and 2 of them are exactly the same as the other 2. please let me know if there is an answer to this. thanks again!!!
