When I go to menu, ask Help (?) and select "About Firefox" I do not get the download screen but a window about licensing info, make donation etc.

It hasn't been downloaded directly from Mozilla?

I think that this "Mozilla Firefox for Ubuntu" can be updated only via your package manager.

You appear to be running a rather old 52.0.2 version.

Verify that you meet the System Requirements (GTK+ and GLib) for the current Firefox release.
