Bookmark Backups Settings

Firefox automatically makes backups of the bookmarks. These are stored in the bookmarkbackups folder. You can set how many backups are kept by doing this;

Type about:config<enter> in the address bar. If a warning screen comes up, press the I Accept the Risk button. At the top of the screen is a search bar. Type browser.bookmarks.max_backups

The values for this setting are; -1 = unlimited number of backups 0 = Do not create any backups Any other number here will keep that many backups Example: 5 = 5 backups are kept.

The backups are stored in a jsonlz4 file named something like this; bookmarks-2016-06-29_1424_enD1GTHya0JmicnYWg4V4g ==.jsonlz4 In this example; 2016-06-29 = date created, 1424 = number of entries.

Thanks for your reply. I made the change you suggested but I still get 30 back-ups listed if I highlight the restore option.

30 backups if fine. Don't worry about it. What is the current value of browser.bookmarks.max_backups ?

You can remove older compressed .jsonlz4 backups in the bookmarkbackups folder manually.

Do you create bookmark backups yourself and if you do, in what folder?

I backup off-line every week. The problem with that is if I backup, it gives me a folder selection box, but if I restore, it expects it to be on-line. Backups are for emergency use and would be needed if the system crashes badly, so online expectation is unreasonable.

I keep last three off-line and have set the value to 3 the way you described.

Is there a reason you are 20 versions behind?

I JUST DELETED THE 200 BACKUPS IN THE HIDDEN FOLDER (AS SUGGESTED) AND ITS OK. i SET THE NUMBER TO 3 AND HOPEFULLY, GOING FORWARD, THE PROBLEM WILL DISAPPEAR. tHE VERSION HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH IT, AS i HAVE GONE TO LATEST VERSION AND THE PROBLEM WAS STILL THERE.
