I'm trying to use Firefox on Fire TV to watch live sports at nbcsports.com. When I click on a live stream, it seems to try to redirect me to an app; a message says "redirecting to mobile app," and then I get a further message about not having the right software installed. I don't want to redirect to a mobile app; I want to remain in the browser. Can I instruct Firefox to not try to find an app?

Hi

I have been chatting to the Firefox for Fire TV developers about this issue and it looks like this may be featured in a forthcoming release.

I appreciate it is not fixed right now, but it is something they are working on and should be released soon.

Got it, thanks. Is there an entry for this in Bugzilla somewhere, so I can vote for it?

Hi

Future work for Firefox for Fie TV is not being tracked in Bugzilla, but is instead being managed in GitHub. The issue that should resolve what you are seeing is here.

Thanks, I checked out the GitHub issue. Is this the same problem? The GitHub issue says

"There are some mobile sites that just don't work very well because sites expect a mobile keyboard, so we need to offer some way for users to switch to a more cursor-friendly site, e.g. request desktop site."

The message I saw on my TV ("redirecting to mobile app", followed by an error about the right software not being installed) suggests that this wasn't trying to bring up a mobile version of the website, but rather it was trying to invoke a remote application. Is that the case?

Hi

By implementing a desktop mode, the expectation is that this should resolve this issue.

Some sites see Firefox for Fire TV as a mobile platform and recommend an app for the best experience. If Firefox for Fire TV can have the option to display sites as desktop, this should be correctly circumvented.

Got it. Thanks again for the help, much appreciated.

No problem, glad we could help.
