Unable to retrieve Saved Passwords from Time Machine backup

Firefox 42 on OS X.

To make a long story short, I accidentally uninstalled Firefox and deleted ALL of its associated files and cache and profile and everything.

I use Time Machine, so no panic. I simply re-installed Firefox and then copied all the files from the most recent, pre-deletion profile saved on Time Machine into my new profile, and voila, all my bookmarks and add-ons came back.

BUT... The one thing that does not come back no matter what I try is saved passwords/login info -- I tried several times already to copy backed up versions of the signons.sqlite and key3.db files, reset my computer, etc., but no matter what, when I go to "Saved Passwords" it's always blank.

Did I lose them forever? Is there anything I can do?

Nevermind, I found the fix. It's here:

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1082961

Firefox 32 and later builds store the passwords in the logins.json file in the profile folder and no longer use the key3.db and signons.sqlite files. You can force Firefox to reimport the passwords from the signons.sqlite file.

reset the signon.importedFromSqlite pref on the about:config page to the default value via the right-click context menu
delete the logins.json file in the Firefox profile folder with Firefox closed

When you restart Firefox then you should have the signon.importedFromSqlite pref with the value set to true and you should have the passwords imported in the Password Manager unless there may have been errors.

That was very good work. Well Done. Please flag your last post as Solved Problem so others will know.
