When will Firefox 41.0.2 get compatible with Norton Security--I am sick of waiting.

Norton says Mozilla updates Firefox too often and this time in too much complexity for them to keep up. That's nuts. I do think there are too many Firefox updates--it's always moaning at me to update--so I agree with Norton. Firefox needs to be helpful to its users who need Norton and stop this damn nonsense.

Hi

Thank you for your question.

I appreciate your concern, however there is another side to this. Symantec (the people that make the Norton products) were given plenty of notice to fix their add-on toolbar. Many other add-on developers did fix their add-ons so that they work fine with Firefox in the future. Obviously people try to avoid this kind of thing form happening, but sometimes it is necessary to make sure that future development is better supported.

In respect of Firefox updates, Firefox is using the same approach taken by other software packages and moved some years ago to a rapid release format. This makes it easier to roll out new features and fixes instead of focusing everyone on one or two key dates a year.

Symantec have said that an updated add-on was due to be release by the end of October, so hopefully they can get this finished soon.

I hope this helps, but if not, please come back here and we can look into a different solution for you.

Also, please see this post for a workaround: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1084932#answer-786158

I am not a techie. I am not comfortable messing around with software targeted to the corporate IT Department. I appreciate your time in giving me this information, but I just can't risk it. If anything doesn't work right, I would have nowhere to turn for help. Also, out of curiosity, I tried to get an online Norton Community posted confirmation that Norton Security 2015 works with Firefox ESR but managed only to find complaints (possibly old ones), but I was looking for positive, not negative, posts! Thanks again.

Hi BeeFree46, Firefox ESR is mostly the same as the Firefox 38 you were probably using 5 months ago, and we can answer your questions here, but it does mean your Firefox would look somewhat different than what is shown in the help articles as features are added.

Unfortunately for IdentitySafe users, Norton just updated its toolbar the other day. This made some toolbar features compatible with Firefox 40+, but now Identity Safe will no longer work with that toolbar in any version of Firefox. Of course Norton is promising a second update, but no time frame has been given.

If you don't want to switch to a different password manager, then unfortunately you're stuck copying/pasting passwords, or using a different browser for sites where you need your Vault to log in.
