Few days ago, during watching youtube video I have noticed, that there was only 360p quality avalaible. I did some digging, and I managed to find information, that this is caused by HTML5. I hate bad quality so I tried to find a solution and there it was: changing "media.webm.enabled" to "false" in about:config. This made me use flash again, instead of HTML5.

Later, another problem has been encountered - GIFs on 9gag stopped working. I was looking for a solution for some time, but nothing could make them move - they look as frozen first frame. I have even deleted and installed again all the components of Firefox, including %appdata%. It didn't work, apparently. My last idea was to check if there has to be HTML5 turned on to make them work and it did! Yet, youtube quality problem has been back.

Is it possible to make gifs and videos work together like they used to before?

If you have problems with current Shockwave Flash plugin versions then check this:

  • see if there are updates for your graphics drive drivers

https://support.mozilla.org/kb/upgrade-graphics-drivers-use-hardware-acceleration

  • disable protected mode in the Flash plugin (Flash 11.3+ on Windows Vista and later)

https://forums.adobe.com/message/4468493#TemporaryWorkaround

  • disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac Options)
key, and then starting Firefox. Is the problem still there?
