I've been using Firefox in Windows for years as my default browser. Suddenly tonight, Microsoft Edge became my default. When I go into Windows Settings and try to change back to Firefox, Windows offers me only Microsoft browsers as alternatives (or offers to let me into the Microsoft Store): Windows Edge or Internet Explorer.

The Control Panel / Settings page "Set Default Apps" is the only way that I know that Windows lets users set default browsers, but it suddenly seems to be restricting me to only MS browsers.

Firefox works normally in every other way, but warns me now every time I launch it that I have a different default browser. When I click the button in the warning (or in Firefox's Tools / Settings) I just get put back to the Windows "Set Default Apps" page, which, again, only lets me choose Microsoft browsers.

What could have happened? I haven't altered my Firefox configuration or installed extensions or plug-ins in a long time. If I uninstall & reinnstall Firefox, will I lose my many configuration & interface settings and will I have to reinstall all my extensions -- or will the reinstalled Firefox remember its existing configuration? Or would that probably not help at all.

I'm very computer-savvy, but have run out of ideas. Can you help??

My issue is that if I access the upper right corner of the screen, titled "Open Application Menu" and go to Settings I'm told my Browser is not the default AFTER THE PROCESS OF JUST MAKING IT THE DEFAULT.

It seems there is an effort to try and drive all of us nuts. This never happened before, and if it continues it will be the end of electronic communications (which it is suspected is the plan by those who engage in violence to achieve their objectives).

What I came here for was to have my settings, after the process (done many times previously) show a response in Settings that, "Yes" my browser (Firefox) is the default, which it did for a time today. Obviously there is no persistence.

When I got help on this issue previously, my response was I already tried that, and it didn't work. There used to be a lot of different browsers. Now I haven't come across any of them currently. Some are having great success in seeing to it that only their browser will survive. That seems like a "gangland" type of mentality to me.link text I believe I spent enough of my time on this issue and explained it in detail. There's really nothing else I can "contribute".

I, by the way, went to my Internet provider today who found an email under Preferences that she said had the capability to steel my emails. It had an extension in Australia (*.AU). If that has anything to do with this problem I'd like to buy a pair of handcuffs to see if that individual(s) being constrained from using a PC keyboard is a cure for this problem.

I have been using Thunderbird since its inception. I am currently on 137.0.1 using W10 Pro with all updates as well as another DELL machine running W11 Pro with latest updates. Suddenly, on BOTH machines, the calendar popup notifications have ceased to appear. I am able to perform all other calendar functions ie: new events, edit, etc. Weird to say the least. No changes have been made to the event notifications settings. Wassup?

hello, how to display only the preferences that I have personally modified, without those that an external program has modified: there are too many of them, and this button loses much of its usefulness.

I tried to do this: [quote]Locate and delete the file prefs.js (or rename it, for example, to prefs.jsOLD, to keep the old file as a backup). If you find more than one, a prefs.js.moztmp file or a user.js file,

delete (or rename) these as well. (/quote]

but it doesn't work because there are still “modified preferences” coming from who knows where.

I recently switched to a new desktop computer running windows 11.

I installed Thunderbird and copied the profile folder accross from my old PC, which was running Windows 10.

Everything appeared as expected when opeing up thunderbird on the new pc - emails, subscribed calendars etc. I can access all calendars and add / modify events etc. I can see that the Google calendars are syncing OK as events added throught Thunderbird show up on my phone when accessing the calendar directly. Reminders also appear on my phone for events added through Thunderbird on my PC, but no reminder window anywhere on my Windows desktop.

I'm wondering if this is a Thunderbird issue or if it's Windows 11 blocking the notifications.

Any help much appreciated

I run Linux Debian 12 (bookworm), and there seems to be no way to disable Firefox from automatically starting up after system boot. I've searched through settings, read countless articles on the internet, looked at system auto-startup applications, but wasn't able to find anything that worked. I even looked in about:config, but couldn't find anything. Firefox isn't automatically started by my system and there is no parameter that disables it. I also didn't click through any choices about autostart when I first opened Firefox.

I've been running T-Bird v.38.8.0 on a Windows 7 computer for years. I have the server settings for my account to "Empty Trash on Exit", and it's been doing that flawlessly for years. Recently (past few days), it has failed to empty the Trash folder on shutdown. The server settings have not changed (box is still checked to empty the trash on exit). If anyone has experienced this issue, can you help me fix the problem? I would very much appeciate your help. Thank you.

I just installed Firefox on an iPad A16. On first launch it prompted me to choose searchbar on top or bottom. Top was the default, I tapped bottom. However, the search bar remained on top.

I tried to follow the instructions on this page: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-move-search-bar-firefox-ios#ios::

But when I go to settings, there is no Address Bar option where I can change this, see attached. I can't find the setting anywhere in the sub menus either.

Is there any way to move the search bar to the bottom on iPad? Thanks!

I've been using Thunderbird and its Calendar for MANY years very happily :-) My old main computer is a w7 Lap and the Thunderbird Calendar in that version has the option to set up a Reminder Notification via Email. And it still works with no problem! I just was given a used Laptop computer that I did a clean install of w11 on, and installed Thunderbird and setup the Thunderbird Calendar to my Google Calendar with NO problems! EXCEPT: I just created a New Event and a Reminder for it, and to my chagrin, there is NO option to be notified by Email anymore !!! grrrrrr  :-( Please, I beg the developers to reinstate that option ! I use that for every event that I create! eg I take MEDS and when I get the email reminder, I can delete the Email reminder to show myself that I've taken that med at that time !!!! Please advise ! THANK YOU
