If Mozilla VPN won’t open on your Mac and you see a message about Intel-based apps or Rosetta, you likely need to update the app. You might see a message like:

“Support Ending for Intel-based Apps. This version of Mozilla VPN will not open in a future release of macOS.”

Why this happens

Apple is removing support for Rosetta, which allowed older apps built for Intel-based Macs to run on Apple Silicon devices (such as M1, M2, and newer).

Very old versions of Mozilla VPN (from 2023 and earlier) rely on Rosetta. On newer versions of macOS, these very old Mozilla VPN versions may no longer open.

Update Mozilla VPN to fix the issue

The most reliable fix is to install the latest version of Mozilla VPN.

  1. Go to the Mozilla VPN download page.
  2. Download the latest version.
  3. Open the downloaded file.
  4. Drag Mozilla VPN into the Applications folder.
  5. Replace the existing version if prompted.
  6. Open Mozilla VPN.

All recent versions run natively on Apple Silicon and does not require Rosetta.

If Mozilla VPN still doesn’t open

  • Restart your Mac after installing the update
  • Make sure your macOS version is up to date
  • Try reinstalling Mozilla VPN

If the issue continues, contact Mozilla Support.
