AOL POP account today has 300 old emails marked as new and duplicated
My AOL POP account today has 300 old emails marked as new and duplicated. I'm not sure that it is a problem with AOL because when I use AOL webmail via Firefox, there are only a few new messages as expected. I generally only use Aol.com to check for AOL marked SPAM that Thunderbird would not get since it only accesses the Inbox.
Thunderbird 52.8.0 on Windows 7 sp1
Any ideas on what caused this?
Thanks, Mike

My guess is AOL reindexed your mail and changed the references used to stop already downloaded mail from being downloaded.
It is one of the risk of leaving mail on the server with a POP mail account. Particularly where the company is not involved with Yahoo who reindex mail regularly.
Why not just add the account again as IMAP and then everything will be synchronized, including the spam.
So AOL reindexing my mail would not also have mismarked the mail as new on Aol.com webmail?
I had stayed away from IMAP because I check from different computers at home and work and did not want anything inadvertently deleted. Also, I thought that POP downloads the entire message and also attachments at the time you check mail and IMAP only gets the headers until you click on the message. I'd prefer to have the entire message with attachments on my home computer. We have trouble with our internet connection sometimes.
