When google locked out the YouTube APP on Fire Stick, I had to use the Firefox browser access.

This is "OK" (not great).

BUT.

After 40 minutes cumulative watching (regardless of content, or how long the pieces are) the video suddenly becomes VERY choppy, audio goes out of sync, and the user interface becomes massively unresponsive.

The only way I've found to get out of this is to get back to the Sleep screen, sleep the Fire Stick, then wakeup (on home scree)n), use device RESTART, and finally re-enter Firefox.

This is ... inconvenient.

I suspect it's some king of appalling memory leak.

Hi

I should be able to help you with this.

From the Fire TV home screen (press the home button on your Fire TV remote);

  1. Select Settings, then Applications.
  2. Scroll down to Manage Installed Applications.
  3. Select Firefox.
  4. Select Clear Cache (not Clear Data).
  5. Press the home button on your remote to go back to the Fire TV home screen where you can reopen Firefox for Fire TV.

I hope that this resolves this issue, but if not, please come back here and we can look into a different solution for you.

Sounds good - do you have any estimate of when/how often I would need to do this?

Hi Bugbear

Good question, but that may depend on a number of various factors such as the content you are watching and the number (and size) of the apps you have running on the Fire TV device.

I would just do if you see similar issues in the future.

OK; this does appear to clear the issue (with similar effect to restarting the stick, or restarting firefox).

However, as with my previous solutions, the cure is only good for 40 minutes.

And (oddly, IMHO) the cache usage shown is only 12 Mb, reducing to 18 Kb when cleared. On a modern device this is NOTHING?!

Hi

Hmmm, I might try this myself on mine tonight and watch several videos, but do you have a number of apps installed (not just Firefox)?

more options

Yes, I have more than 1 app!

I have installed most of the UK catchup apps (ch4, ch5, Dave, BBC iPlayer) as well as Netflix (no current subscription), and I have not removed whatever came pre-installed.

Hi BugBear

I escalated your issue to the developers for input and they have asked for the version number of Firefox for Fire TV that you have.

Press the three line button on the remote when you are in Firefox for Fire TV and choose About to see the version number.
