Why are changes made to account settings not saved. OK button doesnt work v45.1.1 osx el capitan

I make changes to server settings for one of my accounts. Clicking on OK button does nothing. Changes will be in effect until exiting and restarting Thunderbird. What file(s) are the account settings stored in?

Start thunderbird in safe mode - https://support.mozilla.org/kb/safe-mode-thunderbird

Does problem go away? If not, please check tools | error console for relevant information
