WHY? you don't need to do that. just take a copy of your TB folder and you have a backup. if you want to save your mails just select them and right click SAVE AS.

Dunno about "export", but to find the files in the first place:

• Tools | Account Settings
• Select chosen account. You'll need to do this for each account, I guess.
• Server Settings
• in box Message Storage find Local Directory:

From there, go to you file directory application and look into that directory. Now back out to where the "Mail" folder is and you'll find what you are looking for. I have my own preference as one large file per email-folder-on-T-Bird, but you might have something different. If you have it my way, you can see all the emails of a folder in one large text file. Check one to make sure you have what you are wanting. Then copy.

I saw another question that answered yours about the Address Book. I'll be looking it up now.

I had a plugin which was great - I could export & archve a folder of emails in a couple of clicks & thus clean up my inbox, and then import them again if need be.

My disk since crashed, I've reinstalled TB & I cannot find the original plugin after hours of searching. My inbox is on 98%!

Does anyone know of this plugin?

Yes it is.

Appmenu > add-ons On the toolbar then  Type part of the name in the box on the right and press enter when it displays the search results click the install button for the import/ export tools
