Starting yesterday, about half of the websites that I try to go on are blocked. I get a message: Secure Connection Failed

An error occurred during a connection to secure.mawebcenters.com. Peer reports incompatible or unsupported protocol version. (Error code: ssl_error_protocol_version_alert)

The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified.
Please contact the website owners to inform them of this problem.

Is there a fix for this? Is this a new issue. Has something changed that I need to address on my computer. These are websites and programs that we have used for years.

When I try that URL I get a gray exclamation triangle due to use of an RC4 cipher, which Firefox no longer considers secure. But as you can see from the screenshot, the site loads.

The error "ssl_error_protocol_version_alert" is not one I've seen mentioned before here. I'm not sure why you see that. Could you check these settings:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.

(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste tls and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Do these preferences have their default values? If not, you can right-click > Reset them to see whether that helps:

(A) security.tls.version.max (usually 3) (B) security.tls.version.min (usually 1)

Are any other preferences starting with security.tls customized?
