Is it possible to link my bookmarks, history, cookies to an online account as in chrome. This prevents ever loosing them.
I was always a firefox user, but recently did a reinstall of windows and had to manually write down all my bookmarks because last time I re installed windows, the add on that was supposed to backup and restore bookmark simply failed to do so and I lost all my bookmarks. I have discovered that chrome remembers all my bookmarks, cookies, history and settings via my google account. This feature of chrome is very important to me because my bookmarks keep track of all my work and important sites.
I don't want to risk loosing this vital information, so I am forced to use chrome now.
I would like to suggest that this be a feature in firefox somehow. Maybe users could have a mozzila account that stores bookmarks and history automatically for access from any other computer via a log in option.
importing bookmarks into a new instance of firefox would be as simple as pressing an import from mozzila account button.
If a mozzilla account is not viable then maybe linking to a dropbox account or something like that could work.
The problem I am having with firefox now, is simply that my data is stored locally and always runs the risk of permanent loss. Actualy I have lost firefox data about 3 time in the past.

You can save Bookmarks, Passwords, and up to 60 days of History using the Firefox Sync service. I do not think it saves all your cookies, but the cookies corresponding to tabs you used in your last session are saved with your session data. Sync is not perfect, and you will need to keep a copy of your Sync Key or Recovery Key somewhere other than your computer because you would need it if you lose your install of Firefox and want to Sync to that account against from a newly installed Firefox.

Because Sync is a close-to-real-time copy, it's still a good idea to make backups of your Firefox settings periodically. That way, if you notice something important missing, like a folder of bookmarks, you will have something a bit older from which you might be able to recover those.

Mozilla Firefox has a 'export to HTML' option located at: Bookmarks/Show all bookmarks/Import & backup/Export bookmarks to HTML
Then simply upload this on to a cloud service or file host so it is accessible anytime and anywhere.
Just remember to keep the HTML file up to date as you add more and more bookmarks, You can even write a script to automate this but it would require a bit of technical knowledge

By the way, when you reinstalled, did Windows create a folder named:
C:\Windows.old
If so, there's a reasonable chance that all your old Firefox settings are in that folder. In order to drill down into it, however, you first need to make sure that you can view hidden files and folders. This article has the steps for that: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/wi.../show-hidden-files.
In C:\Windows.old, look for your old Users\your-user-name\AppData\Roaming folder. (Not the Local folder, but the Roaming folder.) Once you have that, try finding the AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles folder. Anything in there? From that point, this article probably would help: Recovering important data from an old profile.
Sync is not intended to be used as a backup service like you are talking about, but it will work as long as you save the Recovery Key, as Jefferson mentioned (you also need your Sync Username [email address you used] and your account Password).
Mozilla has just started working a new "cloud service" that is code named PiCL for "Profile in CLoud", which I am expecting will be a lot easier to use and might allow the user to access their bookmarks and other data from the internet without adding a "borrowed" PC to your Sync account.
Thanx for that, seems it can be done with a little effort on the users side for now, It will be great once firefox developers finish work on the "Profile in CLoud" system and have it as a natural and automated firefox feature. I look forward this.
